I can tell you the names of the lovely brown alpacas that this fleece has come from – I can’t wait to knit this up into something warm I can snuggle into and think our Huacaya alpacas like Orlando, Zorro, Charity & more. It will be like a loving warm hug from some of my friends. And we all need a warm hug right now!
Alpaca wool is both incredibly light and warm – perfect for blankets, throws, ponchos and jumpers. I’ve knitted a few things with both 4ply and 8ply together for colour variation and softness. It really is gorgeous to work with and then the finished product – I can’t recommend it highly enough!
While huacaya fiber is similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca fibre is naturally water-repellent and fire resistant. Huacaya, an alpaca that grows soft spongy fiber, has natural crimp, thus making a naturally elastic yarn well-suited for knitting.
